Part Time MBA Programs

Part time MBA programs are designed with the needs of working professionals in mind.

Classes are offered in evenings and/or weekends thereby allowing students to work in the daytime.

The program length varies greatly among programs, but most part time programs can be finished in two to three years.

Often, there will be a stipulation that the program must be finished within five years.

While many programs offered part time do not allow for electives or specialization, others do have this option.

The convenience of a part time program is appealing to students that want to keep working while going to school.

A part time program is unique from other mba programs...

  • Most part time students attend a program that is close to where they live and/or work. Some students will travel greater distances when they only have to attend class once a week.
  • Part time programs offer convenience, but take longer to finish. The program length can vary greatly among programs. Most programs can be completed in two to three years but some go much longer.
  • The total cost is relatively low considering you are still working and classes are broken up over a longer period of time. Other than employers reimbursing students for tuition, loans are usually the only financial support available.
  • Most part time MBAs are working professionals, so they bring real world experiences into the classroom. This enhances the overall learning experience. Students can quickly apply what they learn in the classroom to real situations at work.
  • There are fewer opportunities for networking because there are no internships and limited exposure to other students and potential employers. Less of an emphasis is placed on placement of part time graduates, because many students intend to keep their jobs.

A part time MBA program is best if you are looking for development in your existing career. Most students have solid work experience and want to advance in their industry. The downsides to part time programs are that they take longer to finish. Plus working full time while attending school can be quite a juggling act.
