No work experience MBA programs are more common than they used to be.
The requirement for work experience has been a trademark of the MBA degree.
The flagship full-time MBA program would require at least two years of post-graduate, full-time work experience.
As times and circumstances have changed, multiple MBA program types have been offered.
Each program type markets to different types of students and thereby has different admission requirements.
The work experience requirement often depends on the MBA program type. For example, most traditional full-time MBA programs still highly recommend or even require relevant work experience.
Part-time MBA programs do not usually mandate work experience, but applicants are competing with working professionals that actually have several years under their belt. So in reality, the work experience requirement is still there.
Executive MBA programs usually specify a minimum number of years of work experience (seven years or more is common). They are targeting executives with higher level management experience. So they need to have students that have worked for some time.
Distance MBA programs tend to be more lenient with work experience. This is also true for smaller, flexible MBA programs.
If you are looking at an MBA which does not require work experience, you still may be better off getting some. Work experience is not just important for getting into a program, but also for getting a job after you graduate. It will be much harder to market yourself without work experience.
