Internet MBA

An Internet MBA is most commonly called an online or distance learning MBA. The Internet has had a significant impact on distance learning.

Distance learning was around well before the Internet was a common household name.

In fact, there are MBA programs that have been in operation for over 30 years.

Some schools deliver MBA course instruction fully online. Yet others rely on correspondence via mail to deliver instruction.

Even so, distance MBA programs tend to utilize the Internet in some fashion these days.

The Internet is a great tool for communication. It also works well for group collaboration. Most of all, it enables MBA programs to be offered without regard to location.

I attended a full-time, on-campus MBA program. However, we used the Internet extensively to facilitate communication and group collaboration, to do research, to turn in assignments, and even for some instruction. So there is an element of Internet use in other types of MBA programs too.

Some common "course management systems" used online are WebCT as well as Blackboard. Both technologies were designed to be one-stop-shop web applications for online academics. It is interesting to note that these systems are also used to enhance on-campus learning.

Internet or "online" MBA programs are popular and becoming more accepted these days. Internet technology has proven that it is effective and is here to stay. Traditional schools as well as online schools are using the Internet to enhance their MBA programs.
