Correspondence MBA

A correspondence MBA is a type of online or distance learning MBA. The emphasis is on the way the instruction is delivered.

All or most of the instruction of this type of MBA program is done via mail correspondence.

Instructional materials such as textbooks and/or DVD videos are mailed to the student. This is different from the more common way of using the Internet for instruction.

Some schools actually video lectures from their MBA classes and mail them out to their students. Due to this mailing involved, the correspondence program is usually staggered behind the on-campus program.

There seem to be many advantages to this type of correspondence method. The school simply records a video of the on-campus classes and sends out the DVDs. In turn, the students get the same instructors and the same lessons. This tends to ensure a level of quality.

Even though instruction is delivered via correspondence, most other aspects of the distance learning experience are similar to other Internet-delivered MBA programs. For instance, the Internet is used to communicate and collaborate.

I should note that you will probably not hear a business school use the term "correspondence" MBA program. It is a name I use to differentiate the delivery method from other distance MBA programs.
